Aunty Mary Atkinson

Cultural Knowledge Holder

My name is Mary Atkinson. I am a proud Wiradjuri/Ngunnawal Elder with 4 adult children, 14 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. I have dedicated 25 years to working in education, driven by a passion to see the next generation seize every opportunity that comes their way. I hold deep empathy for the many lives lost to suicide and am committed to bringing this important issue to the forefront of our community. I have also been actively involved in creating and supporting cultural safe spaces within higher learning institutions to ensure respect and understanding for Indigenous cultures.

Throughout my journey, I have been a quiet achiever, honored with a local National Aboriginal Award and the prestigious National NATSICC Elder Community Award for NSW. I am always willing to share my culture with those eager to learn and embrace it.
